   CONTENT.    One important thing about my portrayal of Van is that he is primarily based on the original anime series while retaining loose inspirations from the movie adaptation. Please keep that in mind.I scoured through every source of information I could find for Vision of Escaflowne to develop my interpretation of Van. Note that there is a very obvious, big difference between inspiration and stealing; I will know and notice if something of mine is being stolen whether it is concepts, graphics and/or coding. If I notice, expect me to be confrontational about it. This also means do not use the graphics and icons.While Van is a minor ( 15 ) in his canon ( aside the movie depicting him to be 18 ), there will be verses where Van is 18 as this blog mostly focuses on the events after Vision of Escaflowne. While smut may be present in the verses where he is of age, there will absolutely be no smut involving verses where he is underage. On the other hand, if you don't like seeing minors growing up for the sake of exploring them older, the door is over there~.Triggering subjects may be present on this blog, with the most often explored one being fantasy racism. They will be tagged accordingly.While I am generally okay with writing triggering content, please keep stuff like p.do, i.cest, n.ncon/d.bcon etc etc away here as I refuse to play and write out these matters. These subjects will never be explored here on this blog as I am highly uncomfortable with them.In interactions involving real-life faceclaims, Jeff Satur will be the portrayal for real-life Van. His appearance is the least one would expect from a king; often seen donned in a loose-fitting, short red sleeveless top, white leather pants and brown leather boots and gloves, his simple attire makes him seem more of a rouge than a king. His blue-tinted raven hair is often messy, barely tidied, making Van atypical of that of a man of royal blood. Do not let this man's petite, slender yet muscular stature fool you; he is physically strong enough to take on enemies ( reasonably ) much larger than he is. Though his features aren't quite feminine, Van is considered quite handsome and beautiful, easy on the eyes to many, his dark crimson eyes being one distinct trait of his.Often hidden and barely seen by many, through his Draconian lineage he bears a pair of large, white angelic wings on his back which he can use to fly. A source of his self consciousness due to the prejudice against the draconians, it is a beautiful secret he keeps from many.

Brash and impulsive, Van is very much the picture of a typical hot headed hot blooded youth. Thinking only the short term outcomes rather than the later consequences of his actions, he is quite impulsive and prefers a quicker answer to his problems. He is rather distrusting and prefers to act angry to hide whatever he feels about something or someone, and prefers to not show his true nature. His impulsivity makes him a risk taker, and even resorts to violence depending on the situation.However, this seemingly arrogant nature of his is a facade to the kind and noble nature he shows towards his friends and loved ones, often putting their needs before his to the point of making dangerous risks for their sake. This is not a side many would see from the Draconian, as he has a tendency to put his angry facade higher the more they try to understand him. Despite his violent streak, Van in reality dislikes being violent and does not like fighting others.Van is also rather awkward socially, which shows when he attempts to reveal how he truly feels to someone he feels he can trust.tl;dr he is a tsundere

  DRACONIAN-HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY:   Being the so-called accursed Draconian race from his mother's side, this makes Van a human-Draconian hybrid which grants him a few things which would set him apart from a pureblooded human being.The most distinct racial trait are a pair of large, white, angelic wings which sprout from his back which is usually kept hidden due to the prejudice the people of Gaea have against the Draconians, making Van rather self-conscious about his feathered appendages. These wings are quasi-corporeal, created through the essence of Van's will, and can be touched/harmed/etc and can leave feathers as they fall from his wings.As he has feathered wings, Van is naturally sensitive to the wind; he is capable of sensing even the ever so slightest change in the wind, to the point he can use this to his advantage to find the dragonwinds in Gaea.  SWORDPLAY:   Van is a talented swordsman in his own right, capable of defending himself in arm to arm combat. He was trained to wield the sword at a young age by Balgus Ganesha, the late master swordsman who served the Fanelian Royal Family.  MENTAL DOWSING:   Taught by Hitomi, Van can use a minor form of a mental dowsing by picturing a pendulum, and use it to sense where an enemy using a stealth ability is.

   WINGS;    Having wings makes the way Van feels his body amongst other things rather different from a pureblooded human. Even without his wings out, he doesn't feel the way a typical human would, such as his back being extremely sensitive to the point it is erogenous, sensitive to the wind and any change in its direction, phantom wing syndrome, etc. Further details here.   DRACONIAN CHARM;    Aside their wings, Draconians are also known by one other distinct feature which is their otherwordly beauty/charm which can be mesmerizing to the other, depending on the person's sexuality. As Van is half Draconian, his charm isn't quite as strong as his mother, but its definitely there. Read more here.   DRACONIAN NATURE;    The Draconians are known for their wings, and what little people of Gaea know due to their perception of them as doombringers are the fact they have birdlike instincts eg staying with their 'mate' ( spouse ) for life. This is why Van is rather protective of Hitomi, because at instinctually, she is his mate and he wants to stay with her for his entire life.This also means Draconians do have a degree of birdlike behavior which can be seen through their wings via body language. See more here.   DRAWINGS;    Van's drawings are....Rather crude to say the least. The best way to describe his drawings are extremely childishly crude, yet you can get what exactly he is trying to depict through it. It might as well be ridiculously childishly crude that it is brilliantly conveying that you might as well end up dead from laughter from it.

Many sorts of races reside in the fantastical world of Gaea, from humans to many beast-like humanoid beings. There is one race which is viewed in disdain; those were the Draconians, ostracized for allegedly being symbols of bad omen for destroying their own homeland.The then King of Fanelia, Goau Fanel, accompanied by the royal swordsman Balgus Ganeshia, made a fateful encounter at a lake, his eyes set upon a beautiful woman who stood in the shallower grounds of the water. She then revealed her beauty further upon spreading her large, magnificent swan-like wings, revealing herself to be one of the so-called ill omened Draconians. Although his swordsman warned his king not to approach the Draconian, Goau was already in love with the winged woman, whose name is Varie.Their swift love and romance should have let them get married soon, yet, it was certainly stalled because of people's perceptions and opinions against the so-called race of ill omen. The King ignored them, requesting to treat his soon to be queen with respect, and to not judge her for merely being a Draconian. It didn't take long after their marriage to be blessed with one boy, then few years later another, named Folken Lacour de Fanel and Van Slanzar de Fanel, the two futures of the Kingdom of Fanelia.The early end of Van's childhood was a happy one; where he spent much of his days either playing with his handmaiden & friend Merle, or being read to or playing with his older brother Folken. He also enjoyed the embrace of his beloved mother, the one who taught him about the unfortunate past of his own kind as a half Draconian, to keep his wings hidden until absolutely needed.This happy royal family did not last long; when Van was three years old, his father, the king died from an unknown illness, his mother ultimately being left griefstriken by her beloved's death. His older brother Folken now burdened with the duty of King, he was to set off on the journey of the Rite of Succession to kill a dragon to prove his worthiness of leading Fanalia, never to return as he ended up badly wounded in the attempt.In a further cruel twist of fate, his mother Varie, noticing how there were whispers between the servants and people about her bringing her curse for being a Draconian with the fall of the king and the now missing crown prince, with her grief for her dead husband and missing son, and no longer wanting her younger son to be associated with the supposed curse their kind bore, left for the woods where dragons make their nest, supposedly to find the missing Folken. Despite an extensive search for her by Balgus, Varie was never found, unknown if she is dead or alive.By this time, the five year old Van, the only hope for the Kingdom of Fanelia, was far too young to become king let alone take the dangerous Rite of Succession. Thus for the next ten years, the kingdom was without its king, with the future one being cared for in the hands of Swordsman Balgus, who not only raised him, but also taught the young prince the swordsmanship, in hopes it would prove as a protection on the day of his rite.A decade went by swiftly, and Van is finally fifteen years old, old enough to take the mantle of king. Before that, however, he must slay a dragon to wear that very mantle. Thus, he goes on a journey to hunt for one, without knowing he would be entwined into a fateful encounter with a maiden hailing from the Mystic Moon, or better known as Earth. During his rite, he finally found a dragon, a perfect one which held a Dragenergist, a special energist created from a dragon consuming the energy stones used to fuel a guymelef. In the chaos as he attempted to slay the creature, a beam of light brought him from Gaea to Mystic Moon, where he met the girl who would be deeply entwined with his life, Kanzaki Hitomi.Unfortunately, the dragon was also teleported alongside Van to Mystic Moon, causing Hitomi and her two friends to become unintentionally caught in the dangerous rite he had to go through. He was badly injured, nearly killed but saved in a nick of time when Hitomi saw a vision which said he would be killed if he didn't dodge in time, managing to ultimately slay the dragon and get the dragenergist from it. Shortly after the defeat of the dragon, not only Van finished his brief journey on Mystic Moon, but for some reason, also bringing Hitomi alongside him.Shortly after his victorious return back to his kingdom, in the process where he was crowned King, his kingdom was attacked, then razed to the ground by the Zaibach Empire. This lead Van and Hitomi ( and his feline handmaiden Merle ) on a long, difficult journey of fate where it lead the two fated ones and their companions to even discover the secrets of Gaea and the machinations of the empire. He learned that his older brother Folken was very much alive but drastically changed, fully aligned to the empire allured by the promise of the emperor's hopes, ultimately faced against the brother he loved so much.Through many tears, meetings and goodbyes, they stopped Emperor Dornkirk's machinations to manipulate fate, bringing peace to all of Gaea. Once Gaea was free from the endless, countless wars, fate pulled Van and Hitomi, now lovers, away from each other back to their own respective homes.
